Our Story & Why We Do This
We both served in the Royal Australian Navy - nine years for Jakob, eight for me. Between us we were posted from Sydney to Darwin, Melbourne to Cairns, and across to Perth. That kind of career takes you everywhere, and it gives you a very clear picture of how differently Australians are treated when they walk into a bank.
What we kept seeing frustrated us. Defence members with solid, stable incomes - good borrowers by any measure - being directed straight to the major banks, handed a standard product, and never shown what else was out there. The complexity of ADF pay structures, allowances, and frequent relocations meant most brokers didn't know how to handle them properly. So they didn't.
